Food Redistribution

The Food Redistribution Program is an ALL volunteer program that seeks to rescue food destined to be thrown out and re-distribute it to people in need. Holy Family operates two vans, three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). We currently pick up usable food from 8 supermarkets and 1 restaurant in the Omaha metro area. The food is then distributed to several organizations and agencies that serve the poor. One example is the North route on Monday mornings. The driver picks up at Family Fare, 7402 N. 30th St., Fareway on 108th & Maple, and Family Fare at 144th & Center.  Drop-offs may be St. Benedict’s, the Veterans Center, and Campus for Hope, Holy Family, and/or Open Door.

Deacon Al Aulner coordinates this  program.  We have several volunteers, most of whom are Knights of Columbus members, who work to pick up the food.  About 8,000 pounds of food are donated monthly.  About 80% of that is baked goods, with lesser amounts of produce and groceries.

Donations for upkeep and fuel for the vans are greatly in need. Send donations to Holy Family Food Redistribution, 1715 Izard St., Omaha, NE 68102, or click the ‘Donate’ button below.  Mark checks For Food Redistribution.   We are in need of drivers and helpers.  If you would like to help us help others through the Food Redistribution Program please contact:
